5 Places to Visit in Lisbon

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal and one of our favourite cities in our country.

The city is full of life and has many beautiful places to discover and explore!

Here is a list of our favourite places in this amazing city:

1 – Belém Tower

The Belém Tower was built in 1520 during the reign of King Manuel I.

It is one of the most iconic monuments in Portugal and is a symbol of the Portuguese Maritime discovers!

2 – Praça do Comércio

The Praça do Comércio or also known as Terreira do Paço is one the biggest squares in Europe.

It is right by the Tagus River and it used to be one of the residences of the kings in Portugal. Nowadays it is a place of commerce and it has some government institutions.

3 – Jerónimos Monastery

This is one of the most famous Monasteries in Portugal and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

Inside the monastery we can find the tombs of important kings and members of the royal family. Besides that, there are two tombs of two men that are really important in Portugal’s History. There is the tomb of Vasco da Gama who was the first explorer to reach India by sea and of Luís de Camões who is one of the most important poets of Portugal.

4 – Miradouro de Santa Luzia

The Miradouro de Santa Luzia is in Alfama which is the oldest district in Lisbon.

In the slopes of Alfama you can find the most beautiful view of Lisbon. Besides the amazing view, you also have some beautiful blue and white azulejos and enchanting flowers!

5 – Padrão dos Descobrimentos

This monument was inaugurated in 1960 and it celebrates the Portuguese Age of Discover during the 15th and 16th century.

In this monument we can see portrayed a lot of pelope that were extremely important in this time such as Prince Henrique The Navigator, Vasco da Gama, Fernão de Magalhães, Luís de Camões, etc.
